for the final part of this project, I’m making motion graphics to accompany a song in relation to my band.
Before making anything, I did some hunting for a song that matched the vibe of my band.
Overall, I chose rats!rats!rats! by deftones because my band has a more metal, satanic vibe and deftones is heavier and more experimental than the other three songs.
I then looked at some visualisers and clips from films for some inspiration for what style I want to go with.
Looking at Spiderman across the spider verse’s opening, I really loved the visuals on the screen whenever the drum is hit, like something is splashing on the screen.

In the anti piracy advert from the 2000s, I liked the way the font was in your face and bouncing slightly which I want to try and use in my own piece.

in the beginning of Scott pilgrim with the opening credits, I really loved the way they animated the background for the credits and made them glitch around with the background very subtly. they also changed the colour of the text depending on what was behind it, which makes It stand out more.
Storyboard
I created a storyboard of what i had in mind, using some of my inspirations as well as ideas from the story of the band itself. I included the time stamps as well as a brief description of what’s happening in the scene to help guide me better.

After effects
for this project I wanted to learn how to use after effects.
I started looking at a tutorial on how to create tv static for some of my scenes.
Following this tutorial, I made a short gif of tv static.
I then made all the text with glitch effects including the pointless ligatures logo.

I then Made the glitching lines effect and made it move to the right.

I increased the glitch in the duration as well as reduced it to give a good mix of glitches.

Over the easter holidays, some things happened which caused me to have to completely redo most of my storyboard. I couldn’t film the video of someone playing guitar anymore and I didn’t have enough time to make the full story board so, I made a completely different video with short sampled videos from YouTube. these ranged from random events in history, to an interview with a mafia boss. I layered them behind the static video and put loads of random clips in.

I cut the song off before the next part to make it feel like a cleaner sharp ending. the use of the static breaking things up was my favourite part.
I wanted the video to feel like a form of anger and sadness with a mix of rebellion. it also really helped me reflect my emotions while making it and I felt really passionate about this video.
the final video
I’m really proud of the final video and I’m glad I could do it within the time schedule I had and it’s made me want to make more music videos.
